Thanks for that Spud you seem to know what you're talking about. Have you had any success on getting Yahoo top positions using heavy backlinking? Backlinking will cost money or a lot of time so it would be interesting to know if it actually works or whether it's a combination of backlinks and on-site optimisation.

Also for Yahoo what about natural linking strategies, what I mean is spreading the linking to homepages, blogs, forum sigs, directories?

Well......backlinks are so important for getting higher rank but unlike Google, yahoo prefers onpage factors more in terms of indexing and ranking a site, So for getting higher rank on google it is also important to work on your on page factors like internal linking, content optimisation, alt tags, placement of keywords on webpages etc. other than link building......
